History
The Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown is the newest hotel in Milwaukee, but the building is not. The Loyalty Building was built in 1886 by S.S. Beman in Romanesque style and features a spectacular four-story-high atrium topped by a skylight of ornamental iron construction filled with pressed and patterned squares of glass. The floors are all original paved with up to six different colors of rich, geometric patterned tiles, large safes with original markings, and spectacular stairways also create visual interest. These features have been preserved and highlighted as part of the rich history of the era. The Loytalty Building, an official Milwaukee and Wisconsin Landmark, is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
